These delicious Vegan "Pork" BBQ Lettuce Wraps are full of flavor and made with plant-based "Pulled-Pork" BBQ. With so many great plant-based meats available to choose from, these are our favorite ones. Both No Evil Foods Pulled "Pork" BBQ and Upton's Naturals Bar-B-Que Jackfruit have all of the taste of traditional BBQ pulled pork, and they are vegan friendly and plant-based! Topped with sliced red radishes and watercress, these lettuce wraps are great for a quick & healthy dinner! With just a little prep, this meal can be ready in just 15 minutes.
Upton Naturals and No Evil Foods both make delicious plant-based BBQ "Pork" that work great in this recipe. If you are gluten sensitive, jackfruit is a great alternative. If you're not familiar with jackfruit, read on!
For a little extra "kick," add in some pickled jalapeños! If you haven't "pickled" before, give it a try - it's so easy to do, and you only need a few simple ingredients. While you're at it, I recommended making pickled red onions also. What a treat to have both in your refrigerator!!
What is vegan jackfruit?
Jackfruit is used for many plant-based meals because it has a "meaty" texture and is an alternative source of protein. Unlike animal protein sources, jackfruit contains no saturated fat or cholesterol; it's light in sodium and has just 20 calories per 2.65-ounce serving. It is a relative of figs and breadfruit. Jackfruit grows in tropical areas of Southeast Asia, Brazil, and Africa.
Is Jackfruit Sustainable?
Jackfruit is a very sustainable crop as long as its grown properly with safe cultivating conditions. It does not require irrigation or pesticides and is considered a share crop which means it can be grown along with other soil enriching crops to help with regenerative farming. When trying to decide what brands to choose for jackfruit, always try to support farmer conscious, organic brands such as Mavuno Harvest and The Jackfruit Company.
