Are Air Fryers an Eco-friendly Cooking Method?
Air fryers are considered to be more environmentally friendly than ovens and deep fryers because of their energy efficiency. They cook food faster and do not require preheating which eats up energy and time. Since they use less power, they save people money and reduce carbon footprints. Air fryers also require significantly less oil than other frying methods and can even be used without oil. This reduces the amount of oil waste which can also be hard to dispose of.
In addition, acrylamide, a chemical that is formed during high-temperature cooking such as frying and baking, is formed in significantly fewer amounts when using an air fryer. Acrylamide in high amounts can cause adverse health risks and when animal studies were performed, caused cancer in multiple subjects.
